Overview
Sprout is a community Arts centre that is run by volunteers and is not-for-profit, the aim is to provide an exhibition space for local artists and community groups, with workshops and opportunities to engage in creative activities. It is financially dependent on memberships, self funding activities including a small commission on sales and donations.
The Promise:
To provide a community arts centre which encourages local interest and involvement in arts across a diverse range of mediums. The centre will provide opportunity for local artists and performers to exhibit and share their skills with all interested local people through workshops and other interactive activities. In this way it will promote art and encourage local residents from all walks of life to share and engage in the diversity and enjoyment of the arts.
Reasons for:
Furzedown has demonstrated a high level of interest for art, no better demonstrated by the very successful Wandsworth Artists Open House programme where an artists trail was established across the local area.
Furzedown has a strong community network, reflected in the very successful Furzedown Community website, and art and entertainment are often topics covered and discussed.
The area has a large number of residents and children in local schools who have demonstrated and shown strong interest in the arts.
There are a number of young people who would benefit from an additional out of school facility.
Improve the regeneration and development of Moyser Road.
Expand the excellent work already on offer through the Furzedown Community Centre, Furzedown Community Network etc.
Activities and Opportunities:
The centre’s main ongoing activity will be rolling exhibitions and these will be themed and staged on a timed and preset criteria. All exhibition participants will go through a selection process and have the opportunity to promote their work for sale, and in return will provide at least one workshop session made available to the public. Additionally the centre will be open to walk in activities and private functions, such as school holiday clubs; private viewings andchildren’s art and crafts parties.
